๐ซ WHAT IS CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE (CKD)?
Your kidneys work continuously to remove waste and excess fluid, maintain the right balance of minerals, and support many important functions in the body.
Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) means there is an abnormality in kidney structure or function that persists for more than 3 months and has implications for your health.
CKD can occur because of many different conditions, including:
๐น High blood pressure
๐น Diabetes
๐น Glomerular kidney diseases
๐น Inherited kidney diseases
๐น Recurrent kidney stones or urinary obstruction
๐น Other causes of long-term kidney injury
โ ๏ธ One abnormal kidney test does not automatically mean CKD. Persistence over time and the overall clinical picture are important.
The tricky part? CKD can be present without obvious symptoms, especially in its earlier stages.
Simple tests such as serum creatinine, eGFR and urine ACR can help detect and assess kidney disease.
โค๏ธ Early detection gives us more opportunities to slow progression and reduce complications.
๐ Know your kidney numbers.
๐ Donโt wait for symptoms.
๐ Talk to your doctor if you are at risk of kidney disease.
