When blood sugar remains high over time, it can damage the tiny blood vessels and filtering units of the kidneys. Gradually, this may cause albumin (protein) to leak into the urine and kidney function can begin to decline.

The important part? Diabetic kidney disease may have no obvious symptoms in its early stages.

That is why people living with diabetes should not wait for symptoms before checking their kidneys.

🔎 Regular kidney screening can include:
• Urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR)
• Blood test for kidney function (eGFR)
• Blood pressure monitoring
• Regular diabetes assessment

💡 Early detection gives us an opportunity to identify kidney damage sooner and take steps to slow its progression.
